The whirlwinds that are Christmas and New Year have come to an end and many of us are feeling somewhat windswept after the festivities. If you’re not sure what day of the week it is, what you’re meant to be doing and can’t find your most-loved corset under a pile of Christmas presents, then you’re not alone! The post-Christmas blues have left many of us feeling much less sparkly than usual. But fear not, we have the perfect antidote! Here are five ways that burlesque banishes your January blues…
Banish the blues with… movement
Christmas and snacks go hand in hand. Christmas and our sofas go hand in hand. Christmas and alcohol go hand in hand. And, if you’re anything like us, you’re probably feeling the effects of indulging in many festive goodies. Whilst we believe that you can (and should!) eat and drink whatever you want and move as much or as little as you’d like, getting moving is a sure-fire way to banish those January blues. Burlesque is a sensational way to get your body moving without joining a gym or braving it for a walk outside in the cold – not only this, but you get to learn fantastic routines whilst you do it!
Banish the blues with… friends
I know what you’re thinking, the holidays have given us more than enough time to be sociable, and all you want to do now is hibernate in your home. But we believe that spending time with friends will absolutely keep the January blues at bay. Heading to a burlesque class once a week will ensure that you are staying connected with your friends in a fun and welcome space – plus, if the blues are getting to you a bit too much, then your friends will surely help you shimmy your way back to happiness.
Banish the blues with… purpose
Now that the panic-buying, cooking, travelling, indulging and planning of Christmas and New Year is over, many of us can feel that we’re at a bit of a loss at what to do with our time. With burlesque, you will always have something to think about and something to do: practicing your routine, creating, stitching and sewing new costumes, searching for new music and choreographing your own routines, attending classes, watching burlesque shows, researching for your act and even the odd burlesque-family night out. Phew – we’re tired just thinking about it all! Burlesque can give you a purpose and this purpose will help to banish your January blues.
Banish the blues with… fun
So, you’ve practically overdosed on fun over Christmastime and New Year, but that doesn’t mean that you need to stop being a social butterfly now that January’s here! Burlesque and burlesque classes are fun! Regular fun in our schedules helps us have something to look forward to and, when the time comes for your burlesque class, performance or gathering, you know that you’re going to have a blast. I mean, who doesn’t love shaking their stuff whilst wearing sequins, sparkles and feathers?!
Banish the blues with… fabulousness
Unfortunately, a lot of us feel less-than-spectacular after the holidays. However, burlesque can help banish your January blues with the sheer fabulousness of it all! Where else can you find an open-minded bunch of ladies, with whom you can prance around in your frilly undies to incredible soundtracks? Burlesque brings out the best in us and if you can shimmy off your bad week, connect with friends, dress up in sparkly outfits and have a ball, why wouldn’t you?
